- King George edition
The information on these pages is taken from The Official Souvenir and Programme published by Cheltenham Borough Council for the celebrations to mark the 25th Anniversary of the Accession of King George V. These Celebrations took place on 6th May 1935.
The only piece of pure fiction is the 'letter to the editor', although I feel sure that something along those lines would have appeared in the local papers at the time!
The forward by the Mayor, the old folks, The Children's Arrangements, The Illuminations and Decorations, the Cheltenham Motor Club programme, and the 'light up the skies' article (originally called Jubilee Beacons) are copied verbatim, the other articles are are based around events in the programme. The picture of the Winter Garden came from an old postcard I have.
Contributions welcome
These pages are written in my spare time however I would like to extend the site and would consider posting other articles about the more obscure parts of Cheltenham History and would welcome any contributions that you may feel would fit into that category.
If you would like to contribute to these pages then either email me, or send it to the Municipal Offices Cheltenham, marked for the Attention of Councillor Brian Cassin. (No longer than a single side of A4 please).
